RELIGON AND BELIEFS

Religion was present from the beginning on the gold fields. To start with Christian services were held in the outdoors. Religious differences caused discrimination because the Chinese followed different religions. The Chinese practiced Taoist or Buddhist practices. Many Europeans thought that they were different because they didn't believe in the same religion as them.
